Stirling Moss – 1959 Nürburgring 1000 km

L’art et l’automobile is one of North America’s oldest and best known gallery and auction house of vintage automobilia and art.

They current have a wonderful auction on the go, and they are featuring one of my artworks.

As my friends and clients know, I do an annual signed and numbered Holiday card, for which I create an original artwork.

My very first Holiday card original artwork is included in the current auction, and it also includes an artist proof of the limited edition card, issued in December 2008 to a very limited run of only 75 cards.

The original artwork shows Sir Stirling Moss driving at 10/10ths on his way to phenomenal win of the 1959 Nürburgring 1000 km in an Aston Martin DBR1. He is being chased by second-place finisher Phil Hill in a Ferrari TR59.

This is an opportunity to pick the first of what is now an annual tradition.

My portrait of Juan Manuel Fangio and his win of the 1953 La Cerrara Panamericana in a Lancia D24 and my representation of Sir Stirling Moss' win of the 1959 Nurburgring 1000 km in an Aston Martin DBR1 are the two pieces represented.

The Office Series – 1957 Ferrari 250 TR Scaglietti Testa Rosa

The Ferrari 250 Testa Rosa is a famous racer that helped propagate the Ferrari legend. The name comes from the Italian words for “red head”, reflecting its 12-cylinder engine’s red-painted cam covers.

The Testa Rosa were produced from 1956 to 1961. They were bodied by various carrozzerias, including Pininfarina and Touring.

Scaglietti created the famous “pontoon” fendered 250TR (Testa Rosas). 22 of these beautiful cars were built in the years 1957–58.

A few years ago, I wanted to create a unique clock, based on the 1957 Testa Rosa dash instruments. I bought a new retro-looking clock, took it apart and repainted the case and hands. I recreated the clock-face using the TR tachometer aesthetics, printed it out and covered the old face. Here is the result, which hangs on the wall of our computer room.








Sports Car Market reports that RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, announced that it will be auctioning off one of these stunning Testa Rosa’s, chassis no. 0714TR, during their May 17, 2009 auction. You can read more about it here.
